Under downtown Helsinki is a system of tunnels forming an underground mall, connecting the central train station and Rautatientori ("railroad square"), Kirjatori ("book square"), Forum (a multistory mall), Stockmann (a two block department store), and places in between. Underground stores from each of these places also form parts of the tunnel system. You can buy food, books, clothes, flowers, music, get to the trains, busses, and metro, see buskers perform, all without going above ground (well, except for the busses).

Sokos supermarket is attached to the tunnel between Rautatientori and the bus station exits. We went to this supermarket almost every day we were in Helsinki, and usually bought some of these pastries. |
